The Afghan Whigs @ Music Hall, October 6th 2012

This was a colossal rock and roll show for the newly reformed Afghan Whigs. I saw their first reunion show at the Bowery Ballroom, which was exciting just for the reunion aspect. But now they are road-worn. It's months later, after touring as a band again. Greg Dulli came out sweating and screaming from the start and the band played like it was their last show ever. Though the set list from Bowery might have been more what the fans wanted, covering something from every classic record, last night was a more intense and electrifying evening. The band played hard, and Dulli didn't waste time with drunken stage banter. He sang his heart out like the Greg Dulli that has become iconic to all singer songwriters.

  1. A show for the ages. Quite possibly the best of their four NYC shows from 2012. Each show has given a song or moment that was special and unique from the others, but this one had a stack of them ... Band of Gold, Come See About Me, a (for 2012) uncharacteristically chatty Greg Dulli, a great crowd prowl in a smoking Neglekted, and an nearly 2 hour start to finish. This one was special, and an apropos send off to the city that embraced them again this year. Will be looking out for that DVD when it comes out.
